WHY WE EXISTABOUT CHAB DAI CANADA
HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS NOT JUST A PROBLEM OVER THERE. It’s happening in our own country, cities and backyards. It is a breach of human rights and it steals a person’s dignity. It is modern day slavery. Though it takes many forms and can look like many different things, the common denominator is that it is wrong and needs to stop.
CHAB DAI CANADA IS PASSIONATE TO SEE THE END OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING. We use our our commitment to dialogue and collaboration to unite anti-human trafficking stakeholders. Known for our ability to think globally and act locally, we build country-wide networks across multiple sectors. Using the latest technologies, we create a space for sharing and learning, identify gaps and connect groups who can bridge them. Thanks to our online interactive platform we contribute to the global movement to end human trafficking.
THE CHAB DAI STORY BEGINS IN 2004. Helen Sworn moved to Cambodia and learned that many organisations were being created to fight human trafficking.
She recognized that coordination is critical to provide consistent care to victims and survivors of human trafficking, so she decided to hold a meeting with the key stakeholders in Cambodia. Together, they established a common vision for collaboration in the fight against human trafficking.
Chab Dai means “JOINING HANDS” in Khmer so Helen chose this name as a reminder of her vision for collaboration in Cambodia.
In 10 years, Chab Dai has gathered international recognition and now works with coalitions and partners in over 20 countries.
Inspired by the work that Helen was doing in Cambodia, CHAB DAI CANADA is pursuing the same vision—to unite the Canadian organizations in the fight against human trafficking. We have an established board and one employee and our current focus is the launch of the Freedom Collaborative.
KNOWLEDGE FOR SHARING
We are committed to addressing issues of abuse, exploitation and trafficking by working together and providing opportunities for learning.
ADVOCACY FOR JUSTICE
We believe partnership in coalition creates more collaboration for advocacy, and enables organizations to support one another more effectively.
SUPPORT FOR STRENGTH
Working together enables us to keep our individual identities while also acknowledging the broader issues we face as a whole.
HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
We exist so that families and communities at risk, and those who have been sexually abused, exploited or trafficked, can heal completely and live to their fullest potential.
